Early Siletz tribal members wove many intricate baskets which were both beautiful and useful. Sturdy creations of spruce root woven over hazel switches were often embellished with bear grass, dyed woodwardia and maidenhair fern designs. Other baskets were made of cattails, rushes, cedar bark and even the fine fibers of wild iris leaves. Some fifty-year-old designs remain as bright and colorful as when they were first created.
